Unibank, a Haitian bank with remittance transfer agencies in the United States, works with PADF’s staff in Haiti and the Haitian diasporas to rehabilitate local schools, as part of the school reconstruction program. The alliance “Remittances for Development” created in November 2002, put together a fund which offers matching grant funds for Haitian-American organizations who wished to invest in school reconstruction in Haiti. Unibank contributes part of its revenues from remittance commission to this fund. Since the fund was created, two schools (one each year) have been rebuilt and terms are being negotiated for the third project to begin.
