Education is Promoted

For a second year in a row the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) and Banco Agrícola combine their efforts to make remittances sent to El Salvador contribute to the development and progress of the country.

To achieve this, they make a call to the Salvadoran communities in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles to present investment proposals to develop concrete projects focused on education in their areas of origin.

The program known as “Manos Unidas por El Salvador”, which was launched last year, received a total of 10 proposals from which 6 were chosen to be developed with the participation of Salvadoran immigrant groups.

“Manos Unidas por El Salvador” offers funds to develop projects with direct participation of remittances.  The funds are provided by Banco Agrícola and administered by PADF, who at the same time organizes workshops and other resources for the Salvadoran immigrant groups.

Ernesto Magaña, a representative of Banco Agrícola, pointed out that he hopes that this year will be better than last and more proposals will be gathered.  “The Salvadoran communities must know that every time they send their remittances through Banco Agrícola, they are collaborating  with their grain of sand to the implementation of ‘Manos Unidas’”, he added.

The deadline for new proposals for educational development projects is May 15th and they will be selected before June 30th.

Among the projects implemented as a result of this initiative are a computer center in Comunidad El Piche and the construction of a classroom, among other.
