A total of 530 elementary students from the municipality of Tejutla in Chalatenango received a mini scholarship from Programa ALCANCE (Alliance of communities in support of children and their continuation in school).

The mini scholarships consist of backpack, notebooks, pencils, pens, material for uniforms, shoes, a story book, and a geometry kit or paint.

The school packet had a cost of $40.

“We are seeking to help boys and girls from poor families to enroll and remain enrolled in school,” declared Katherine Andrade, national coordinator for Programa ALCANCE.

A total of 2,500 mini scholarships will be distributed in about 58 rural schools around the country.  Seven schools in Tejutla have already received them.

The program, implemented by the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF), receives funds from the United States International Development Foundation (USAID) and contributions made by 24 Salvadoran organizations of residents abroad.

In this municipality of Chalatenango, ALCANCE was supported by World Vision and Comité Pro Mejoramiento de Tejutla.
